Why Free?

It's a personal project, with no plans for a paid tier

WalletMap is an indie project from one developer — not a company, no VC, no plans to gate features behind a paid tier. The free version is the full version. That's a deliberate design choice: I built it for myself, automated the painful parts, and figured anyone with the same itch could use it too.

So how do you keep the servers running?

Ads, but not powered by your financial data

Hosting, API costs, and the domain are paid for primarily by Google AdSense ads on public pages (homepage, blog, guides, feature pages). **Pages that show your personal financial data — the dashboard and related views — never display ads.** That's a line I won't cross. Google does use cookies to look at general browsing behavior for ad targeting, but it has nothing to do with your financial data — the bank balances, holdings, and crypto positions stored in your Google Sheets are **never** shared with the ad system. Full ad and cookie disclosures live in Section 8 of the Privacy Policy.

What people usually ask about "free"

Will you launch a paid tier later and lock features behind it?
No plans to. If a paid feature ever ships (deeper analytics, team sharing, something like that), it'll be additive — "new things on top of the free tier" — not "things that used to be free now cost money." People on the current free version won't get downgraded. That's a commitment.
Will you sell my financial data?
No. The simplest reason: your financial data isn't in our hands to begin with. It lives in your own Google Sheets; our server is just a thin read/write layer that never persists sensitive numbers. No data, nothing to sell.
Does AdSense use my bank balance for ad targeting?
No. Google AdSense can't see anything you enter into WalletMap — it only sees generic browsing signals (region, interest categories, etc.) that have nothing to do with what you do on this site. We have an explicit agreement with Google not to share user financial data with the ad system.
Can I avoid seeing ads?
Sure. The simplest way: log in — the dashboard and any page showing your personal financial data never have ads. If you're just browsing the blog or public pages, ads are part of how the free tier stays free. If a paid tier ever launches, ad-free might be one of the perks, but that's a future thing.
